George Osborne will unveil his 2016 Budget on Wednesday. As his previous growth forecasts unravel, he’s threatened further cuts. As ever, the devil will be in the details and I’ll be in the Commons to listen to the Chancellor’s statement. This week I teamed up with Sheffield Students’ Union Women’s Committee and Unite the Union to celebrate International Women’s Day and raise funds for women’s charities.

I launched the annual event with the two unions five years ago, and it has subsequently raised thousands of pounds for dozens of women’s charities. This year’s event, held on Wednesday night, raised funds for Sheffield Rape Crisis, Sheffield domestic abuse charity Ashiana and Women for Refugee Women.

Today starts with meetings on the Immigration Bill and the Labour In for Britain campaign, following which I’ll be in the Commons Chamber for Education Questions. After that I’m meeting with a University of Sheffield researcher, who’s exhibiting his work at the SET for Britain event to highlight cutting edge scientific research. Then I’m heading off to Kingsway College, where the Committee on Education, Skills and the Economy, of which I’m a member, is taking evidence as part of our inquiry on careers advice, information and guidance.
