The debate on the Queen’s Speech continues this week and I’ll be speaking on Tuesday, raising my concerns on the cuts facing local schools and policing -; as well as issues on fire safety in Sheffield arising from the tragedy at Grenfell Tower.  

But before that, Brexit will be dominating today. I’m pleased to have been re-appointed as a Shadow Brexit Minister and will be on our front bench for the Prime Minister’s Statement on the EU Council, and particularly looking at her comments on the rights of EU Nationals in the UK -; and therefore the rights of Brits in the EU27. Later I’ll be there again for the Queen’s Speech debate on Brexit and foreign affairs. In both debates, Labour will be pressing for the Government to guarantee the rights of EU citizens and for the economy and jobs to come first in negotiations.

On Tuesday, I’ll also be in the Chamber for BEIS Questions, where I’ll be challenging Ministers on when they will publish their carbon reduction plan, an issue I’ve been discussing with Sheffield Climate Alliance. On Wednesday I’ll be at a meeting of the Labour Campaign for Electoral Reform, which I chair, where we’ll be discussing next steps in our campaign for proportional representation.

I’ll be heading back to Sheffield after key votes on the Queen’s Speech on Thursday evening, which will test the Tories new deal with the Democratic Unionist Party.  On Friday I’ll be meeting with constituents, doing an interview with Sheffield University Union’s newspaper Forge Press and catching up with local Councillors. On Saturday I’ll be at Sharrow Festival and on Sunday I’ll be speaking at a meeting of the Sheffield and District African Caribbean Community Association, before joining a fundraising concert for Syrian refugees at Walkley Community Centre.
