It’s Mental Health Awareness Week, and the Tories have announced their plans on the issue. One in four of us will have a mental health condition at some point in our lives. But too many people -; particularly young people – aren’t getting the help they need.

The Tories have pledged more staff, but apparently by shifting money from other NHS budgets. They’ve said that every school should have a teacher trained in mental health first aid, but are cutting budgets and staff -; just putting already overworked teachers under more pressure and making no real difference.

The NHS needs proper funding to tackle the crisis and schools need more support to help children and young people with mental health problems.
