A joint inquiry by Parliament’s Health and Education Committees has found that financial pressures are restricting the provision of mental health services in schools and colleges.

Mental health is consistently among the top issues raised with me by young people, as you can see from the results of my Big Conversation last year here.

This report’s findings are hugely worrying and underline the need for the Government to urgently address the funding crisis in our schools, as well as matching their words on mental health with action.

I have previously challenged Ministers on mental health funding cuts and warned the Government that Theresa May’s warm words about tackling the mental health crisis mean little without greater investment in services. In a debate in Parliament I raised Sheffield young people’s concerns about the state of provision of mental health services and their fears over the impact of cuts. Pressing for better mental health services is high on my agenda.
