Brexit will again be a big part of my week, with a Parliamentary debate on its impact on the rural economy, and one on security, law enforcement and criminal justice.  I’ll be following the Prime Minister’s speech on Tuesday, which should be followed by a Parliamentary statement, and I’m concerned about weekend press briefings suggesting that she will be announcing plans for a ‘hard Brexit’. I’ll also be speaking to Harrow Labour Party about the issue. 

But there’s more to my week than work linked to my job as a Shadow Minister on Brexit. On Monday I’ll have a meeting with Corporate Watch to discuss the non-payment of the National Minimum Wage, which I’ve done a lot of work to challenge. On Tuesday I’ll be speaking in a debate in Parliament on the impact of Department for Work and Pensions policies on low-income households, and I’ll be meeting with the Institute of Directors to discuss lifelong learning.

On Thursday I’ll be speaking in a debate about the situation in Kashmir, when I’ll express serious concerns about human rights abuses there, and I’ll be in Parliament on Friday to cover for Labour’s front bench on any Brexit issues that arise in the Commons. I’ll then be heading back to Sheffield to attend the Yafa Charity Organisation Awards in the evening, recognising the success of members of the South Yemeni Community in Sheffield who recently graduated from British Universities.

On Saturday, I’ll be taking part in Labour’s NHS Day of Action, campaigning in Manor Park and Highfield against Tory cuts to our health service, before heading to Bramall Lane -; hoping to watch the Blades return to promotion-winning form after this weekend’s mishap at Walsall.
