Paul Blomfield A strong voice for Sheffield Central
Monday 8th June 2015 – The Parliamentary week is always a bit unpredictable. Last Thursday I intended to speak in the Queens Speech debate on the economy, but it was so oversubscribed that I pulled out in favour new members wanting to make their ‘maiden speeches’. But I was pleased to be in the Chamber to hear a brilliant contribution from Ed Miliband on the challenge of inequality (read it here).
This is Carers Week and as a patron of Sheffield Carers Centre, I’ll be at an event in Parliament to celebrate the contribution of carers. A lot of my week ahead is taken up by my role as Parliamentary Private Secretary to our Shadow Foreign Secretary, as the Government is pressing ahead quickly on the EU Referendum Bill and, in addition, on Tuesday we’ve got Foreign Office Questions. I’ve also meetings with Citizens UK, Million Plus and British Future. I’ll also be attending hustings for Labour’s Leader and Deputy Leader -; you can see my views on the issues we face here.
Back in Sheffield, Friday is taken up with interviews for a new caseworker to join my team. Then on Saturday, I’ve one of my regular open advice surgeries for constituents. After that it’s back to the issue of my week in Westminster as I’ll be speaking and taking questions at the Broomhill Festival on the EU Referendum -; do come along and join the discussion (see here).
