Station Access Saved - a Victory for Democracy
Transport Secretary, Lord Adonis, announced that access across the railway lines at Sheffield Station is guaranteed. There will be no ticket barriers at the station until an alternative pedestrian bridge is available.
Paul has been working hard with the local community to keep the bridge over the railway at Sheffield station open to everyone - not just travellers.
Together with local Labour party and community volunteers Paul encouraged station users to sign letters opposing the ticket barriers planning application. The response has been fantastic and more than 500 letters have been collected - and in all over 1200 objections were received. This local pressure led to a change of heart.
The picture shows Paul handing the objection letters to Councillor Jan Wilson who leads the opposition Labour group on Sheffield City Council.
