New investment is great news for Sheffield and Sheffield manufacturing

- Paul Blomfield with Lord Mandelson at Sheffield Forgemasters
Paul welcomed the announcement by the Labour Government on 17th March of a new £80m loan to Sheffield Forgemasters. The loan will enable a 15,000 tonne forging press to be built at Forgemasters which will allow the Sheffield firm to build parts for the next generation of nuclear power stations in the UK. The new forge will create new manufacturing jobs in Sheffield and put Sheffield at the forefront of a global supply chain for civil nuclear manufacturing.
Paul Blomfield welcomed the Business Secretary Peter Mandelson to Forgemasters and said:
“The new investment in Sheffield Forgemasters is hugely important because it will create new manufacturing jobs at Forgemasters and place Sheffield manufacturing at the forefront of the global civil nuclear industry. The new forge also has the real potential to create thousands of new local jobs in the manufacturing supply chain.
“The Labour Government’s investment is great news for Sheffield and for Sheffield manufacturing so I was delighted to welcome Peter Mandelson to Forgemasters. What a contrast Labour’s investment is to the last Tory government who tried everything they could to shut the British steel industry and British manufacturing down.”
