Paul Blomfield MP

A strong voice for Sheffield Central

Keeping in touch - August 2016

Paul Blomfield, MP for Sheffield Central
The Big Conversation - August 2016

Every year my annual community consultation, The Big Conversation, helps shape my work in Parliament. This year I’m doing more open meetings, themed discussions and café drop-in sessions across Sheffield Central to hear people's concerns and take them to Parliament - as I've done in the past...

Big Conversation Events

I've sessions with community groups, schools, cafes, churches and mosques. And there are lots of public meetings:

During the Summer Recess

Although Parliament is in recess until 5th September a lot has been going on. I wrote to the Government to demand the Business Department keep and expand its presence in Sheffield, met young people on the National Citizenship Programme, visited Age UK in Manor Park, talked to Wybourn Scout Group, joined community festivals in Broomhall and Manor Fields and I am preparing for my role on the Higher Education Bill Committee, where I’ll be scrutinising the Government’s controversial proposals for universities. I’m meeting lots of constituents, catching up with correspondence I missed over the busy post-referendum period, and taking a couple of weeks break.

Help the S2 Food Bank

I’ve supported the S2 Food Bank from the start. It’s a disgrace that people have to depend on food banks, but it’s a practical way that we can all help those most in need. While the numbers seeking help have grown, donations have fallen. We desperately need more support. There are three ways you can help:

  • Join me in making a regular financial donation – sign up here
  • Organise a regular collection of food with your neighbours – get in touch with Mike Lewis at for tips on street collections, which have raised lots of food.
  • Offer some of your time as a volunteer – find out more here

Do help if you can. Your small contribution can go a long way.

Can you organise an event?

This year’s Big Conversation doesn’t finish on 8th October. I want to organise events throughout the year. Get in touch if you’re in a group that could host an event or you have an idea for one.

Help deliver Big Conversation leaflets

I need volunteers to help get information out to over 40,000 homes in Sheffield Central. Can you help deliver leaflets on your street? Get in touch if you can.
