Appointment of the board of the Office for Students

The Commissioner for Public Appointments has issued a damning report saying that Ministers and advisers blocked appointments to the Board of the Office for Students from those with “close links to student unions” – despite “a legal requirement for one board member to have experience of representing or promoting the interests of students”.

Ministers have been forced to re-advertise for a student representative and I’ve pressed them to guarantee that student union involvement will not be a barrier to appointment.
