Theresa May’s ideological and absolutist red line that there will be no role for the European Court of Justice in our future relationship with the EU is behind her intention to leave Euratom. Euratom promotes nuclear research and safety across Europe, and plays a role in the transport of vital medical isotopes used in scans and treatments for cancer to the UK. This morning I spoke from Labour’s frontbench in a debate on the UK’s membership of Euratom and urged the Government to put jobs, nuclear safety and health first and commit to our continuing Euratom membership.
