After a weekend knocking on doors across Sheffield Central and listening to views about the General Election, I’m back in Westminster this morning for the last week before Parliament is prorogued on Thursday (although formal dissolution isn’t until 3 May). I’ve a full week starting today with Communities and Local Government Questions, when I’ll be asking what Ministers are doing to redress regional variations in adult social care funding.

Also this week, I’ll be going to the youth mental health charity YoungMinds‘ event launching their new ‘Wise Up’ campaign and policy report. Mental health is high on my agenda. I recently warned the Government that Theresa May’s warm words about tackling the mental health crisis mean little without greater investment. I’ll also be going to MillionPlus‘ ‘A Celebration of Modern Universities’ to mark the 25^th anniversary of the Further and Higher Education Acts of 1992.

On Wednesday, I’ll be hosting an event with the Parliamentary Outreach Service and Newton’s Apple, building links between scientists and policy-making, at which I’ll be welcoming Grantham Scholars from Sheffield. On Thursday the very last Departmental Questions of this Parliament will be taking place, and it’s the turn of the Department for Exiting the European Union, so I’ll be there on Labour’s front bench to challenge Tory Ministers on their approach to Brexit.

I’ll be back in Sheffield on Thursday evening for a General Election event with my local Labour Party and then on Friday I’ll be speaking at an International Workers Day memorial in Sheffield (at 12.30 outside the Town Hall) and meeting with local councillors. On Saturday I’ll be speaking on Brexit at the Fabian’s Regional Conference, and then taking time out from election campaigning on Sunday to celebrate the Blades promotion in the final match of the season against Chesterfield.
