Earlier this month I wrote about how the Government’s plans to change the rules around Personal Independence Payments (PIP), that could result in 160,000 people with mental health conditions receiving less financial support, completely contradicted Theresa May’s warm words about tackling mental health problems.

I voted for a parliamentary motion opposing the cuts and today I raised the issue in the House of Commons -; asking the Government for an estimate of the number of disabled people who will be affected by the changes. 

For my follow-up question, I highlighted that Sheffield Citizens Advice is due to publish a report later this week on the wider impact of the shift from Disability Living Allowance to PIP and, in particular, the effect that it is having on the over-65s. 

I’m pleased that the Minister of State for the Department for Work and Pensions, Penny Mordaunt, has agreed to meet with me and Citizens Advice to discuss the report’s recommendations.
