Today starts with a meeting of Labour’s Brexit team, after a busy week in which we had our first oral questions and I led from Labour’s frontbench in a debate on the rights of EU nationals, in my new role as a Shadow Minister on Exiting the European Union. Then I’ll be in the Chamber for the expected statement from Theresa May on the EU Council meeting last Thursday.

In Westminster this week I’m meeting with a group from Sheffield who are in Parliament to campaign against human rights abuses in Kashmir; I’m sitting down with Universities Minister Jo Johnson and Cabinet Office Minister Chris Skidmore to press for the model of integrating voter registration and student enrolment that we’ve pioneered in Sheffield to be rolled out across all universities; I’m meeting with other Yorkshire MPs to discuss Brexit and HS2; I’m attending an APPG on Universities, of which I’m Secretary, meeting about Brexit; and I’m talking to Ministers about taxi licensing.

Back in Sheffield on Thursday I’m going to a reception organised by the Lord Lieutenant of South Yorkshire and on Saturday I’ll be speaking at the World Week Parade in the Peace Gardens, organised by Sheffield University Union to celebrate diversity and inclusion, where I’ll be talking about the contribution of international students. On Friday my office is closed, because one of my staff team is getting married and we’ll all be there at the wedding!
