Paul Blomfield A strong voice for Sheffield Central
Ministers have agreed to meet with me to discuss my proposal to require universities to give students the option to register to vote when they register at university.
Following the successful partnership between the University of Sheffield and Sheffield City Council that means students can now opt to be added to the electoral register when they register at university, I proposed an amendment to the Government’s Higher Education and Research Bill yesterday to roll this out across the country.
Although he rejected the proposed law change, the Universities Minister Jo Johnson MP agreed to arrange a meeting with the relevant Minister from the Cabinet Office and I to discuss how we can take the proposal forward. You can read the discussion around my proposed amendment here.
