I’m pleased to be welcoming constituents visiting Parliament today on one of the regular trips that I organise. They’ll get a tour of Parliament, watch a Commons debate in action and have a question and answer session with me. If you’re interested in coming on a future trip please get in touch with my office. Later I’ll be chairing an All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Students (which I set up a couple of years ago) AGM, which is followed by roundtable discussion bringing students and MPs together with Universities Minister Jo Johnson, to discuss the Higher Education and Research Bill.

On Tuesday I’ll be attending a meeting of the APPG on Debt and Finance, of which I’m Secretary, to discuss a fairer approach to council tax arrears collection, before meeting with the PCS union to talk about further action on the Government’s decision to close Sheffield’s BIS Office. The Business, Innovation and Skills Committee, of which I’m a member, will also be quizzing Business Minister Anna Soubry as part of our inquiry into access to finance. In the evening, I’ll be at the Electoral Reform Society’s Westminster reception – as a supporter of moving away from ‘first past the post’ to an electoral system based on proportional representation.

On Wednesday, I’ll be participating in a Westminster Hall debate on how the outcome of the EU referendum will impact the UK steel industry and then then, after PMQs, I’ll be in the Chamber to support my Labour colleague Margaret Greenwood, who is moving a NHS Reinstatement Bill under the Ten Minute Rule Bill procedure. On Thursday I’m visiting the controversial Yarl’s Wood Immigration Removal Centre as part of the work I’ve been doing to challenge the current arrangements for immigration detention, before heading back to Sheffield for the AGM of my Constituency Labour Party.

On Friday I’ll be at the funeral of Isobel Bowler, a friend and Sheffield councillor for Mosborough who sadly passed away recently from cancer. I’ll also be visiting the Well Church which I’m supporting in having their building on Ecclesall Road designated as an asset of community value.  I’ll also be meeting with Shelter and British Gas Energy Trust to discuss their joint work, visiting SHINE Health Academy, a project dealing with obesity, as well as going to Prince Edward School to chat to pupils about the Send My Friend to School project. Then I’m looking forward to going to the Sharrow Festival and the Sunday Centre at the Victoria Hall over the weekend.
