I arranged a meeting today about stopping sexual harassment and assault on and off university and college campuses.

As many as 1 in 7 women have experienced a serious physical or sexual assault as a student and 68% have been the victim of one or more kinds of sexual harassment on campus, according to research

It’s deeply disturbing that so many women students are victims of sexual harassment or assault on and off campus. Today’s meeting, which I organised as chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Students, involved MPs, policymakers, campaigners and students coming together to discuss practical action to tackle the problem.

I was pleased to be joined at the meeting by Nicola Dandridge, Chief Executive of Universities UK and Chair of the Government’s Anti-Violence and Sexual Harassment taskforce, Charlotte Chorley, Women’s Officer at Cambridge University Students’ Union, and Bryony Beynon, Co-Director of Good Night Out; as well as MPs, students’ union representatives and others.
