As a Shadow Brexit Minister, my next two weeks will obviously be totally dominated by the debate on the Government’s deal. We have been clear that it does not meet our six tests and will be voting against it. We have tabled our own amendment to the motion, which would prevent us exiting without a deal and calls for a permanent customs union with the EU and a strong new Single Market deal. You can read my latest Brexit update here.

Today I will be in chamber for a statement from the Attorney General on the legal advice he issued to the Cabinet on the terms of the draft Withdrawal Agreement. Despite the House voting unanimously for the full and final advice to be published, the Government has indicated that it will instead publish only a summary of the advice. The Speaker has warned that this could result in the Government being in contempt of the House.

Later today, I will be speaking for Labour against the proposal in a public petition saying that there should be no further referendum under any circumstances. Labour is clear that we will vote against this flawed deal and call for a General Election. Failing that, all other options must be kept available, including a further public vote, with remaining in the EU as an option on the ballot paper.

On Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, I will be in the Chamber as we debate the Government’s Withdrawal Agreement and Political Declaration on the Framework for the Future Relationship.

There will not be much time for other things this week, although I will be hosting a roundtable discussion with Yorkshire and Humber MPs for the Office for Students before chairing a meeting of the Labour Campaign for Electoral Reform. On Tuesday, I will be joining the All-Party Parliamentary University Group, of which I’m Secretary, for a meeting on big data and higher education.

I am heading back up to Sheffield on Friday to meet with the Chair and Chief Executive of the NHS Clinical Commissioning Group and then meeting constituents to discuss the forthcoming Environment Bill. After that, I will catch up with my staff team to follow through on issues that came out of the Big Conversation.

On Saturday, I will hold one of my fortnightly surgeries (more information here) and then get ready for another busy week down in Westminster as we head towards the vote on Theresa May’s Brexit deal on Tuesday 11th December.
