Yesterday I warned the Government in a debate in Parliament that recruitment in the NHS will suffer as a result of its plans to scrap bursaries for student nurses and midwives.

More people in Sheffield Central than in any other Parliamentary Constituency have signed a petition against the proposed changes and lots of people have got in touch with me to express concern.

As I said in the debate, the Government’s plans to replace bursaries with loans will deter people from lower income families and worsen the national shortage of nurses and midwives.
