After a week speaking at meetings and knocking on doors to make the case for remaining in the EU, I’m back in Parliament today, where I’ve a meeting of the Labour In for Britain campaign team, and I’ll be catching up with the NUS to discuss student concerns. I’ll also be voting on amendments to the Investigatory Powers Bill, where Labour has concerns around issues like privacy, sufficient judicial authorisation and accessing Internet Connection Records.

On Tuesday morning we’ve invited Sports Direct Chief Executive Mike Ashley to give evidence to the Business, Innovation and Skills Committee, of which I’m a member, following reports of treatment of workers in his business. After several refusals to meet with us, it seems as if he’s had a change of heart. We’ll also be hearing from staff and trade union representatives.

Higher education is a big theme for me this week, and one that will take up an increasing amount of time in the weeks ahead as the Higher Education Bill is presented to Parliament. This week I’ll be meeting with a group of Vice Chancellors, hosting a briefing for MPs on behalf of MillionPlus and meeting with English UK to talk about international students. Also the Sub-Committee on Education, Skills and the Economy, of which I’m a member, will be considering our report on careers advice, information and guidance, and I’ll attend my usual Shadow Foreign and Commonwealth Office team meeting in my role as PPS to Hilary Benn, the Shadow Foreign Secretary.

I’m then heading back to Sheffield on Thursday where I’ll be busy campaigning on the EU -; speaking at events and knocking on doors -; as well as visiting Broomgrove Trust Nursing Home to listen to residents.
