Paul Blomfield A strong voice for Sheffield Central
Brexit is going to dominate the next two weeks. The Government have cleared the Parliamentary programme for the EU (Notification of Withdrawal) Bill, which will have its Second Reading in the House of Commons on Tuesday and Wednesday. I’ve been working with colleagues in the Shadow Brexit team on Labour’s amendments, which will be discussed when we move to Committee Stage next week.
Quite a few people have contacted me about recent developments on Brexit, so I have provided an update on my website, which also summarises our amendments.
I will also be meeting with the CBI to discuss Brexit, immigration and industry, and the Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry to discuss the impact of Brexit on the sector. But there’s lots more happening too.
Today, I’ll be hosting representatives from the UN High Commission for Refugees to discuss immigration detention, which I’ve done a lot of work on; and I’ll be in the Chamber for Theresa May’s expected statement on her visits to the USA and Turkey. Later in the week I’m going to an All Party Parliamentary Group on Universities meeting; and attending the Best Bar None Awards, which promotes responsible management and operation of bars and pubs.
I’ll be back in Sheffield on Thursday where I’ll be attending a Question Time for young people with Nick Clegg and Natalie Bennett in the evening. On Friday I’ll have a series of meetings and appointments, including: visiting Wolf Safety Lamp Company; meeting with new charity Forging Families; talking to a member of the faculty of engineering at the University of Sheffield about the Women in Engineering campaign, which I support; catching up with the Sheffield Climate Alliance, who I work with a lot; and meeting student officers from Sheffield Hallam University.
At the weekend I’ll be speaking to the European Movement Yorkshire conference and also at an event about the situation in Kashmir -; as well as getting along to Bramall Lane to see if United can rediscover our form!
