My week in Westminster starts this morning with a Trustees meeting of Focus on Labour Exploitation, a charity which works to end human trafficking for labour exploitation. Later I’ll be at the weekly meeting of our Shadow Brexit team and also at an event organised by Universities UK about the future of UK higher education post-Brexit. 

Tomorrow morning I’ll be at an All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Students meeting, in which we will relaunch the group following the General Election. In the afternoon I’ll be attending a briefing by the Obesity Health Alliance on tackling childhood obesity, and I’ll be dropping by a Joint Council for the Welfare of Immigrants meeting on spousal visa rules, which have prevented many of my constituents being joined in the UK by their partner.

On Wednesday morning, I will be responding to a debate as one of Labour’s Shadow Brexit Ministers on our membership of the European Atomic Energy Community (Euratom) -; something the Tories are risking, with the thousands of jobs that depend on it, because of their absolutist position on the European Court of Justice in Brexit negotiations. Also on Wednesday, I’ll be at the first meeting of the APPG for International Students since the General Election; talking to students from King Edward VII School about the Send My Friend to School campaign which champions the right of all children to an education; going to a meeting of the APPG University group; and attending a briefing session about HS2.

I’ll be back in Sheffield from Thursday, interviewing for a vacancy in my staff team, catching up with the new Presidents of Sheffield University Union and Sheffield Hallam University Union, meeting the Director of Public Health, talking with constituents, and attending a meeting on the development of a ‘cumulative impact policy’ to deal with the proliferation of 24 hour off-licenses on and around West Street and its effects on antisocial behaviour.
