This is the last week of Parliament before the summer recess and today I’ll be attending the first meeting since the General Election of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Migration, which I used to Chair and of which I’m still a member. I’ll also be going along to the regular meeting of Yorkshire and Humber Labour MPs.

Tomorrow I’m co-hosting the launch of the British Red Cross’ research report Can’t Stay Can’t Go which tells the stories of refused asylum seekers, living in destitution, who are unable to return to their country of origin for reasons beyond their control. I’ll also be speaking on the UK’s higher education policy and its impact on international students to representatives of embassies and high commissions at the Embassy Education Conference at King’s College -; and I’m also meeting with the Russell Group.

I’ll also be meeting with representatives of the British in Europe in my role as a Shadow Brexit Minister and, on Wednesday, I’ll be in the Commons Chamber for a debate on exiting the EU and sanctions, as the UK’s legal powers to impose and implement sanctions in order to comply with our UN obligations and to support our wider foreign policy and national security goals will change when we revoke the 1972 European Communities Act.

On Thursday I’ll be meeting Penny Mordaunt MP, the Minister for Disabled People, with Sheffield Citizens Advice, to press concerns raised in their report on the impact of the shift from Disability Living Allowance to Personal Independence Payment.

As the House of Commons won’t be sitting for the rest of July and August, I’ll be in Sheffield dealing with casework, meeting constituents, visiting local groups and preparing for my annual community consultation, the Big Conversation, which will take place during September and October -; as well as taking a couple of weeks holiday. My office will be open throughout the summer if you need to get in touch.

‘My week ahead’ will be back in the first week of September, when Parliament returns.
