Paul Blomfield A strong voice for Sheffield Central
Parliament has returned today after the Christmas break and there will probably be Government Statements or Urgent Questions on issues that have come up over the last couple of weeks. If there’s a chance, I’ll be challenging the appointment of Toby Young to the Board of the Office for Students.
Later I’ll be in the Commons Chamber to support Labour colleagues in the Shadow Treasury Team for the Second Reading of the Taxation (Cross-Border) Trade Bill, and again with the Shadow International Trade team on Tuesday for the Trade Bill -; two of the many Brexit-related Bills we’ll be debating over the next year.
Tomorrow I’ll be in Foreign and Commonwealth Office Questions where I’m hoping to intervene with a question about Palestinian communities threatened with demolition, which I highlighted in a debate last month. Later I’ll be in Westminster Hall for a debate on Yorkshire devolution. On Wednesday I’ll be meeting with Sheffield MPs and going to an Amnesty International event about immigration detention, an issue I’ve been working on.
On Thursday, I’ll be speaking at the launch of the Higher Education Policy Institute’s new report into the impact of international students, something that I’ve campaigned on for several years and on which the Government may finally be moving. Then I’ll be heading back to Sheffield.
On Friday I’ll be visiting Broomhill Infant School, touring the Moor with Aberdeen Asset Management to catch up on progress with the development, and meeting with the Sheffield Clinical Commissioning Group about their consultation on the future of Minor Injuries Unit and the Walk-In Centre. In the evening I’ll be heading to Bramall Lane -; hoping that we’ll be securing a double over Wednesday -; and then on Saturday morning I’ll then be holding one of my regular advice surgeries.
