Today Brexit Minister Suella Braverman failed to confirm that the Agency Workers’ Directive would not be scrapped post-Brexit. She was answering my question about social and economic rights when we leave the EU, when I drew her attention to an article by the new Secretary of State, Dominic Raab, in 2016. In it he made the case for Brexit as an opportunity to ‘ditch’ the ‘100 most burdensome regulations’ and separately objected to the Agency Workers’ Directive because it ‘gives agency workers the right to the same basic employment and working conditions as full-time staff’. It’s clear that the Tories can’s be trusted with employment rights post-Brexit.
