Resilience is admirable; obstinacy is not. The PM is responsible for the chaos.
Yesterday I spoke for Labour in a debate on the Government’s preparations for leaving the EU without a deal, which Labour has strongly opposed. I used the opportunity to say that the Government’s main focus should be on reaching out to secure a consensus in Parliament on the way forward, reminding Ministers that Parliament had twice vote to rule out a ‘no deal’ Brexit.
Ahead of her attack on Parliament later that evening, I said that it was her dogged insistence on denying MPs a real say by insisting on the binary choice of ‘her deal or no deal’ that had created the impasse. Blaming MPs for not giving in to her blackmail is unacceptable and, in the current climate, deeply irresponsible.
