Today I joined campaigners backing ‘Know the Line’, an initiative to stop sexual harassment. The campaign was set up, with Safer Streets South Yorkshire, after speaking with local women and girls about their experiences of street harassment. It brought together a partnership of local groups and individuals who came together to create a public awareness campaign about sexual harassment of women and girls in South Yorkshire.

The UK’s first national street harassment study reported that 64% of women had experienced unwanted sexual harassment in public places, rising to 85% of 16-24 year olds, and that 45% had experienced unwanted sexual touching, with campaigners saying local research showed similar results. Clearly this is unacceptable; women and girls should be safe on our streets, those men and boys responsible have got to stop, and we can all help.
