I used my last pre-election opportunity to challenge the Tories on their refusal to guarantee environmental protection. I asked them why they would not include a ‘non-regression clause’ in their Environment Bill, which would prevent future standards being lower than those required by current EU regulations.

They simply confirmed my concern that their proposals give Ministers alone the power to set targets and that they could be trusted to protect the environment, while experience suggests otherwise! You can watch our exchange below:
