As business in Westminster can change daily, it can be difficult to know what’s ahead. Last Monday, for example, I arrived at the Commons to find I was responding for Labour to the Foreign Secretary’s Statement on ‘Global Britain’ (more here). This week starts in Sheffield as I’m hosting a visit by Keir Starmer, who I’m backing for the Labour leadership (more here).

I’ll be heading to London tomorrow, where I’ll start the day by joining colleagues to welcome the Lord Mayors of Dublin, Belfast and Derry to Parliament. Also this week, I’ll be meeting with the University and College Union to discuss their concerns about visa monitoring on campuses, joining the Vaccine Alliance, Gavi, to hear about their work in the poorest countries to vaccinate children against deadly diseases, meeting with the Climate Coalition at their ‘Show the Love’ lobby and joining a ‘Love Songs for the Planet’ protest.

I’ll also be taking part in a Parliamentary debate about leaseholders and flammable cladding in high rise buildings, on which I’ve been pressing the Government – see here and here. I’ll be heading back to Sheffield on Thursday for my Constituency Labour Party’s meeting to nominate a candidate for the Labour leadership. On Friday, as well as catching up with my team I have a meeting about the Castlegate development.

Next week is a Parliamentary recess, so I’ll be working in Sheffield with various meetings and visits. My next ‘My Week Ahead’ post will therefore be the following week, on Monday 24th February.
