Despite the recent talk of MPs returning to Westminster, nothing has been agreed and we’re continuing to work remotely. My week starts with an online meeting with local Councillors to discuss issues in the constituency and ends on Friday with a meeting with Council Cabinet members. We’ll be talking about how we deal with the confusion coming from the Government and concerns about schools opening more widely.

As Shadow Minister for Brexit and EU negotiations, I’ll be briefing colleagues in the Parliamentary Labour Party today on last week’s talks on which we’re expecting Cabinet Office Minister Michael Gove to report to Parliament tomorrow. On Tuesday I’ll be discussing the position with MEPs from Labour’s sister parties in the European Parliament, on Wednesday I’ll be meeting the Irish Ambassador and on Thursday I’ll be talking with diplomats from several EU countries. I’ve also got meetings with both the Shadow Cabinet team and Shadow International Trade team.

I’ll be pressing Universities Minister Michelle Donelan on my concerns for students and universities at a meeting of the Universities APPG on Wednesday and will continue discussions on these issues the following day at a meeting of Sheffield MPs and the Vice Chancellors of both our universities.

Parliament is in recess next week, but my office will be working online as we have been over recent weeks. I’ll post the next preview of my week ahead when Parliament returns on 1st June.
