On Parliament’s first day back after the recess today, I backed the Royal College of Nursing ‘Fair Pay For Nursing’ campaign by pressing Health Secretary Matt Hancock to commit to funding fairer pay for nurses and all NHS and social care staff, as well as highlighting how their pay has been eroded since the Conservatives took power in 2010.

I pointed out the huge public support for all who work in the health and care system, but the Health Secretary did not agree to seeking funds for an increase.  We applauded health and care workers on our doorsteps every week during lockdown. It is time we recognised the amazing work they do week in week out and I will continue to push for an increase in pay for all in the sector.
