I’ve written to the Chancellor Rishi Sunak today – along with Sheffield’s other Labour MPs – in response to last month’s Spending Review. We’ve challenged the way that the Government is making those who have kept the country going, and those who can afford it least, pay for the costs of the coronavirus crisis.

The letter points out that the Chancellor has hit families’ incomes with a triple hammer blow of key worker pay freezes, Universal Credit cuts, and a hidden council tax bombshell” which will dampen the chance of economic recovery.

We’ve made the case that “The Government should be enabling people to spend and support local businesses. Instead, you are actively taking money away from people and have argued for a greater commitment to green investment as part of the fair and sustainable recovery we need from the pandemic..
