Today I spoke in the Budget Debate and outlined the Chancellor’s failure to fund the NHS. Despite his warm words about healthcare heroes, he delivered £30 billion of cuts to our health service.

It’s unbelievable that after clapping for health and care workers outside 11 Downing Street, the Chancellor proposed a huge cut to NHS funding – rather than strengthening health and care services, learning the lessons from the pandemic.

Despite speaking for nearly an hour, his Budget Statement didn’t even mention social care. There’s no plan for our broken social care system – despite the Prime Minister’s promise as he took office over 18 months ago, that he’d “fix the crisis in social care once and for all, with a clear plan that we have prepared.”

He has once again proved himself to be style over substance – his slick PR job can’t hide the fact that his Budget contains more of the same Tory cuts to our health service.
