The disappointing election results for Labour, locally and nationally, will figure significantly for me in meetings with colleagues this week. After Parliament’s prorogation and the end of the last parliamentary session, the House of Commons will sit again from tomorrow and I’ll be following the Queen’s Speech, in which the Government will set out its plans for the coming session.

As Parliament gets back up and running this week, there’s not much opportunity to be participate in the chamber. In the meantime, I’ll be catching up with the NUS in my role as Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group as we await an announcement on full return to university campuses and proposals for skills training.

I’ll also be participating in the UK Trade and Business Commission’s panel on Brexit and trade in financial services, talking with representatives of the Chinese community about recent attacks, meeting local campaigners about the Government’s New Plan for Immigration – and getting my second Covid jab!
