As indoor hospitality venues reopen today, I’m launching a campaign with The Star and other partners to challenge sexual harassment in the sector (read more here and get involved here). Experiences shared by school students during my Big Conversation prompted me to plan the campaign, which was delayed by the pandemic. I’ve had great support from the sector who want to ‘build back better’ from Covid and put an end to sexual harassment for staff and customers.

My first meeting today is with the City Council Chief Executive and other Officers, including the Director for Public Health, as concerns rise about the impact of the Indian variant on the easing of lockdown. I’ll also be meeting with the NHS Clinical Commissioning Group on Friday, so do get in touch if there is anything you would like me to raise.

The debate on the recent Queen’s Speech continues in Parliament this week and I plan to speak on Wednesday focussing specifically on social care. On Tuesday I’ll be joining colleagues in the All-Party Parliamentary Universities Group, of which I’m Secretary, for a meeting with Universities Minister Michelle Donelan and, on Friday, I’ll be catching up with Vice Chancellors of both Sheffield’s universities.

Also this week I’m meeting Health Secretary Matt Hancock to discuss the proposed investment into Weston Park Cancer Centre, chairing a meeting on local attacks on Chinese residents, catching up with the new Sheffield District Commander of South Yorkshire Police on local policing concerns, and attending a roundtable with the European Movement UK’s Ambassadors network.
