Today I spoke in the second reading debate of the Building Safety Bill, calling on the Government not to go back on Boris Johnson’s promise, and to make sure leaseholders caught up in the cladding and fire safety scandal face no costs in making their homes safe.

I had backed cross-party moves to amend the Fire Safety Bill, but the Building Safety Minister Lord Greenhalgh had said it was not the right mechanism for protecting leaseholders, and we should wait for the Building Safety Bill but now Ministers are going back on that too.

Constituents in Sheffield Central and nationwide are desperate for an end to the financial and emotional turmoil the Government is putting them through. If Government refuses to act over the coming weeks and months, I called for Parliament to force action by amending the Bill.
