Paul Blomfield Former MP for Sheffield Central
On Thursday 25th November I marked White Ribbon Day, the international day for the elimination of violence against women, by stepping up my campaign for zero tolerance of sexual harassment in the hospitality sector (read more here).
Earlier this year, I launched the “Zero Tolerance pledge”, with partners including Sheffield Star, UNIGHT (representing the night-time economy), Sheffield Chamber of Commerce, SCR Hospitality and others. We asked cafes, restaurants, bars, pubs, clubs and hotels to pledge to zero tolerance of sexual harassment towards staff and customers – and to treat complaints seriously.
Over 30 local businesses from across the city have signed up, but we want more venues to join the campaign and we’re asking customers to get involved by calling on their favourite venues to make the pledge.
The recent spate of spiking incidents highlights the pressing need to tackle violence against women and girls and this campaign can make a difference by showing businesses that tackling sexual harassment is important to you. Find out more in this guide and write to your favourite venues about the campaign.
