Paul Blomfield Former MP for Sheffield Central
My week is dominated by the Nationality and Borders Bill again as it reaches report stage. Lots of constituents have written to me about the Bill and I’ve been challenging it for several months – which you can read more about here. I’ll also be attending the ‘Afghans Beyond Borders’ protest calling for the Afghan Citizen Resettlement Scheme to open – on which I pressed Ministers last week. I’ve also launched Christmas appeal for Afghan children to which you can donate here.
Also this week I’m hosting a reception for Gambling with Lives, a charity established by constituents to tackle gambling addiction, meeting constituents as part of a lobby day on Palestine, and joining a meeting of the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Universities to discuss the government’s proposed reforms for post-18 education – including the Lifelong Loan Entitlement, the Skills Bill and the expected government response to the Augar Review.
I’ll be back in Sheffield on Thursday, joining a meeting of the UK Trade and Business Commission on the trade issues and wider repercussions of the Northern Ireland Protocol negotiated by Boris Johnson as part of his Brexit deal, followed by a meeting with Student Action for Refugees about improving access to higher education for refugees.
On Friday I’m joining other South Yorkshire MPs for a meeting with City Region Mayor Dan Jarvis, and I’ll also be catching up with local councillors. Finally, on Saturday, I’ll be knocking on doors to meet constituents in Broomhill and Sharrow Vale on Saturday as my Big Conversation.
