After last week’s historic and inspiring address to the Commons by President Zelensky, and the increasingly brutal actions of Putin’s forces, Ukraine will continue to dominate our politics. I’ll be looking for the expected statement by Michael Gove on how the Government intends to catch up with the rest of Europe in its response to the refugee crisis – on which I’ve pushed for far greater support than the shameful response we’ve seen so far.

On Tuesday and Wednesday I’m hosting a scientist from the University of Sheffield as part of the Royal Society pairing scheme which aims to provide policymakers and research scientists an opportunity to experience each other’s worlds. I’ll be attending the AGM of the Universities APPG, of which I’m Secretary, and later in the week meeting with the Deputy Vice Chancellor at Sheffield Hallam University.

Also this week I’ll be attending an event organised by Shelter to discuss the housing emergency and what is needed to ensure everyone is provided with a stable and safe home, meeting the City Council to discuss my concerns about the housing repairs service, catching up with members of the Council leadership and, at the weekend, I’ll be out knocking on doors in Nether Edge.
