Paul Blomfield Former MP for Sheffield Central
Before heading to London, I’ll be in the Town Hall chairing a meeting of the Castlegate Area Board, which has been set up by the Council with local partners, to champion the regeneration of Castlegate including overseeing the delivery of the levelling-up project for the area.
After a report by the Institute of Alcohol Studies (IAS) published over the weekend showed the huge cost of alcohol abuse, I’ll be following up on the issues it raised this afternoon as part of our Health and Social Care Select Committee inquiry on prevention in health and social care. Tomorrow we’ll be meeting again for a further session as part of our inquiry on NHS leadership, performance and patient safety.
As Chair of the Young Carers and Young Adult Carers All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) I’ll be chairing a meeting with young carers where we’ll be discussing the Children and Families Act and Care Act 2014 ten years on – and I’m sponsoring a Parliamentary exhibition with Russell Group universities to showcase their contribution to research and innovation.
I’ll also be joining a parliamentary event as part of Dying Matters Awareness Week with the intention of opening up conversations around death, dying and grief, joining a ‘Prescription to Save Our Pharmacies’ campaign drop-in, meeting to discuss student voter registration ahead of an general election, and attending a Britain-Palestine APPG reception where young Palestinians will be sharing their experiences and visions for the future of Palestine..
Parliament goes into the half-term recess from Thursday which means my weekly preview will be posted on 3rd June.
