When in February I won the weekly draw to ask a Prime Minister’s Question, I used it to tell Theresa May about young carers and ask if she would meet a group from Sheffield. This week I’m delighted to finally be bringing them to meet her and share their ideas about how the Government can support them. I met them last week to prepare for the meeting and they’ve got some great proposals.

Surprisingly, and completely by luck, I’ve also been selected for Prime Minister’s Questions again on Wednesday. PMQs are like buses -; after waiting over a year for the last one, I’ve now had two in three months! I’ll be raising something different, but haven’t decided what to ask yet -; there’s lots of constituents’ concerns in the mix.

Also in Parliament this week, I’ll be meeting with Business Minister Andrew Griffiths to discuss my proposals to improve pay slip transparency in the social care sector to help ensure compliance with the National Minimum Wage and end illegal underpayment; something I’ve been working on for a long time.

On Tuesday I’ll be hosting a Universities UK reception to raise awareness of their Go International: Stand Out campaign which is about encouraging students to study, work and volunteer abroad; and attending a briefing from the LSE about Brexit and security.

Parliament rises for the Spring Bank Holiday recess on Thursday and I’ll be heading back to Sheffield where I’ll be talking to a representative from the Sheffield Working Women’s Opportunities Project (SWWOP) and going to the monthly meeting of my constituency Labour Party. On Friday I’ll be meeting with the PCS union to discuss pay for Home Office security staff at their Sheffield offices and holding one of my regular surgeries.

During next week’s recess, I’ll be visiting the European Parliament in Strasbourg for meetings in my role as Shadow Brexit Minister. My ‘Start the Week’ column will be back the following week.
