It’s a short week in Westminster as Parliament was closed yesterday for the bank holiday and I’ll be heading back to Sheffield on Wednesday night for Thursday’s local elections. While in London I’m meeting with Unison to talk about apprenticeships and catching up with the NUS about the APPG on Students, of which I’m Chair.

Two of the committees of which I’m a member will be meeting; The Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) Select Committee will take our first oral evidence into access to finance for businesses and the Sub-Committee on Education, Skills and the Economy will be preparing our inquiry on apprenticeships. I’ll also be in the debate that Labour has called on the Government’s plans to scrap bursaries and impose fees on student nurses, midwives and allied health professions -; something I’ve challenged previously.

After Thursday’s elections in Sheffield I’ll be meeting with local constituents, speaking at Birkdale School about the European Union, attending the local election count and also preparing for the debate I secured in the House of Commons on the closure of the Sheffield BIS Office -; please do get in touch if there is anything you would like me to raise in the debate. And then at the weekend I’ll be at Bramall Lane for the Blades closing game against Scunthorpe.
