With the ‘Article 50’ Bill behind us, Parliament’s focus shifts from the process for Brexit to the substance of the negotiations. This week I’ll be speaking for Labour’s front bench in a debate on exiting the EU and global trade.  I’m also meeting EDF Energy, to discuss Euratom, and the Royal College of Psychiatrists to hear their concerns over the impact of Brexit on the mental health workforce. 

On Tuesday I’m meeting a group of young people from the local homeless charity Roundabout, who are in Westminster for the Youth Homeless Parliament. I’ll also be talking to fellow MPs and council leaders about the HS2 route and Sheffield station, meeting Study Group, going to the Million + event ‘A Celebration of Modern Universities’ and meeting with Sky Betting about investment in local skills.

I’m always keen to welcome constituents to Westminster and this week there are quite a few groups visiting (find out more about visits I organise here, or ring my office for more details). As well as the group from Roundabout, I’ll be talking to Sheffield Hallam University geography students about the role of Parliament, holding a Q&A with Sheffield University journalism students, meeting the Officers from Hallam Union and welcoming a student nurse to talk about the NHS.  

After questions to International Trade Ministers and Women’s and Equalities Ministers on Thursday, I’ll be heading back to Sheffield, where I’ll be meeting members at my monthly Sheffield Central Labour Party meeting. On Friday I’ll have a series of meetings with my staff, the Chief Executive of Sheffield Museums and local councillors, as well as one of my regular Advice Surgeries for constituents. On Sunday I’ll be speaking at an event to mark Bangladesh Independence Day, organised by members of the local Bangladeshi origin community.
