I met with members of the team at Ashiana last Friday to present the money raised at my International Women’s Day screening of ‘Desert Flower’ and to discuss their work, particularly in relation to women who are victims of human trafficking and their children.

Thanks to the generosity of everyone who came along on IWD, and donated online, I was able to give £522 to Ashiana towards their work supporting and empowering women from Black, Asian, Minority Ethnic and Refugee communities whose lives have been affected by violence and abuse.

The other half of the £1044 we raised has been sent to Women for Refugee Women, who I’ve worked with nationally, particularly around immigration detention. As well as everyone who donated, thanks also go to Sheffield Hallam Students’ Union and Unite the Union for their support.
