Over the last few days I’ve been in contact with constituents around the world, who have been stuck as a result of flights cancelled by airlines or by governments closing airports. I’ve been working with other MPs in the same position and with Labour’s Shadow Foreign Office team to press for action on to help get UK citizens home.
Over the weekend our main focus was on Peru, where several constituents were stuck, due to action by the Peruvian Government – and thankfully that has been resolved by the Foreign Office, with flights now arranged. I’ve also got a number of family groups from Sheffield whose flights home from Pakistan have been cancelled, and I’ve written urgently to the Foreign Secretary urging him to take action to support them in the same way as Peru.
I am also dealing with cases in New Zealand and Namibia. If you know of any constituents needing help, do get in touch.
