As we look to Wednesday’s review of the tiered measures to tackle Covid-19, I challenged the Health Secretary today on two aspects of the Government’s handling of the crisis.

I backed strong measures to limit transmission and protect NHS workers from the growing pressure on hospitals, questioning Government advice for easing measures over Christmas. I also called for better financial support for businesses and workers in sectors like hospitality, particularly for those who have fallen through gaps in existing schemes.

I was disappointed that his response avoided my concerns, simply putting the responsibility on individuals and talking about existing financial support.
