Paul Blomfield Former MP for Sheffield Central
I am looking forward to starting my week by welcoming constituents who are travelling to Parliament on the first visit I’ve organised since the pandemic – and we will be catching up for a Q&A in the afternoon. Until the Covid restrictions I organised these trips every year since being elected, bringing around 500 people to Westminster. If you’re interested in future trips drop me an email.
I’ll also be looking for opportunities to challenge Ministers on reports that they are intending to reverse policies supporting international student recruitment that I worked across parties to secure through the International Education Strategy. During the week I’ll be seeking to promote my Christmas Appeal for the Children of Somalia which you can find out more about and donate here.
Tomorrow we’ve the last sessions of the Retained EU Law Public Bill Committee, in which I’ve been opposing Government attempts to scrap the many rights and protections acquired during our 43-year membership of the EU. Later I will be joining the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Universities, of which I’m Secretary, to discuss skills and growth.
On Wednesday I’ll be attending the Delegated Legislation Committee on Prescribed Persons (Reports on Disclosures of Information) (Amendment) Regulations 2022 before meeting with students brought to Westminster by the University of Sheffield for as part of Parliament’s Education and Engagement programme.
My Big Conversation continues with online evening meetings on Tuesday and Thursday, which you can find out more about and sign up for here, and on Sunday I’ll be looking forward to hearing the outcome of the selection process for my successor – on which I’ve shared my thoughts here.
