Paul Blomfield Former MP for Sheffield Central
After a weekend in which political debate has focused on Gary Lineker’s comments about the Illegal Migration Bill, I’m heading to Westminster where I’ll be speaking against the Bill at its Second Reading later today – highlighting the way it ‘doubles down’ on the malign Nationality and Borders Bill which I opposed at every stage.
Tomorrow starts with the Health and Social Care Select Committee where our inquiry into digital transformation in the NHS has its final evidence session. Later in the day I’ll be attending the AGM of the All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Universities, of which I’m Secretary, which is followed by a discussion on free speech in universities with the CEO of the Office for Students and others. As well as being Budget Day, Wednesday is Young Carers Action Day and as soon as the main budget speeches are over I’ll be going to Downing Street with a group of young carers to hand in a letter to the Prime Minister on how they should be better supported. I’ll then be hosting an event in Parliament as Chair of the APPG for Young Carers and Young Adult Carers, to hear from these amazing young people, before heading back to Sheffield for a meeting on NHS dentistry with the Local Dental Committee. On Thursday I’ve a meeting to discuss recent Royal Mail cyber-attacks and the impact on local post offices, which was snowed off last week, before speaking online at the NUS National Conference. On Friday and over the weekend I’ll be knocking on doors and meeting constituents – as well as heading to Bramall Lane on Sunday for the FA Cup quarter-final.
