This is a short week in Westminster as Parliament rises tomorrow for the conference recess in which all the political parties will be gathering. I’ve a couple of meetings in Sheffield before heading down to London to sit on a Delegated Legislation Committee for the draft Retained EU Law (Revocation and Reform) Act 2023 (Revocation and Sunset Disapplication) Regulations 2023  in which the Government are backtracking on the ‘kamikaze’ approach to retained EU law – recognising the risks I spoke about when they introduced the Bill a year ago.

I’ve a topical session of the Health and Social Care Select Committee on Tuesday, in which we’re taking evidence as part of the Right Care Right Person framework, which is changing the way that the police work with other emergency services in responding to calls involving mental health concerns. Later I’ll be joining constituents petitioning the Government for better pay for workers in social care and joining an event organised by Community Pharmacy England, before leading a Westminster Hall debate on the impact that the cost-of-living crisis has had on students.

My next weekly preview will be posted after the conference recess on Monday 16th October.
