My week starts this morning by chairing the first meeting of the Castlegate Area Board, which has been set up by the Council with local partners, to champion the regeneration of Castlegate including overseeing the delivery of the levelling-up project for the area. Then I’ll be heading down to Westminster to speak in the Second Reading of the Renters Reform Bill on which I organised a cross party discussion on the impact on student renters back in July.

This evening I’ll be hearing from the Palestinian Ambassador Husam Zumlot at a meeting of Labour Friends of Palestine and the Middle East and tomorrow I’m joining an online briefing with leading Israeli human rights lawyer Michael Sfard, organised by Yachad. Also tomorrow I’m participating in an All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Gambling Harm meeting to hear from experts on advertising, and attending an APPG on Climate Change event on keeping the 1.5C target alive as we head to COP28 in November.

On Wednesday, the Commons will be debating the Economic Activity of Public Bodies (Overseas Matters) Bill – or Boycott Bill as it has become known – which I opposed at second reading back in July. I’ll also be joining the AGM of the APPG for Dentistry and Oral Health, a conference on Kashmir, and a University APPG event on the role of higher education in the NHS Long Term Workforce Plan.

Back in Sheffield on Thursday, I’ll be meeting Council officers on regeneration in the city centre before joining a celebration of completion of the Sheffield General Cemetery restoration project earlier this year. In the evening I’ll be catching up with local Labour members at our monthly meeting.

University issues dominate on Friday, when I’ll be having one of my regular catch-ups with the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Sheffield before joining a Student Assembly organised by the students’ unions of both our universities to hear student views and concerns.

As Parliament will then be prorogued until the new session opens with the King’s Speech on 7th November, I’ll not be a posting another preview of my week until 6th November.
